What is the URL for Google?

Have you ever wondered about the digital address that takes you to the world’s most popular search engine? Whether you are setting up a new browser, creating a shortcut, or just curious, knowing the exact web address is essential.

The Short Answer

The URL for Google is simply:

https://www.google.com

Breaking Down the URL

To understand how you get to Google’s homepage, it helps to look at the individual parts of its web address (URL, which stands for Uniform Resource Locator):

• https://: This stands for Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure. It ensures that your connection to Google is encrypted and safe from prying eyes.
• www: This stands for World Wide Web, indicating that you are accessing a website on the global network.
• google.com: This is the primary domain name.

Did You Know? Google Around the World

While [www.google.com](https://www.google.com) is the main global address, Google operates dozens of country-specific domains to provide localized search results, news, and languages. For example:

• United Kingdom: www.google.co.uk
• Canada: www.google.ca
• Australia: [www.google.com](https://www.google.com).au
• Japan: www.google.co.jp

Whenever you type the main .com address from anywhere in the world, Google’s system automatically recognizes your location and can redirect you to your local version, though you can always visit the global site directly.
